KARACHI The Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup, the annual blue-ribbon event of the Karachi Race Club (KRC), will be held on Dec 13 to avoid its clash with the holy month of Muharram.

Since its inception in 1948, the very next year after country's coming into being, the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup takes place on Dec 25 to commemorate the occasion barring unavoidable circumstances.

According to prospectus of classic and semi-classic races, the Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup, a term race for four-year-old and above horses, will be run over 12 furlongs. The last date for submission of entries with a fee of Rs6,000 is Dec 1 at 2.00pm.

The other cup races that are scheduled to take place on Dec 13 are The 2000 Guineas Of Pakistan, restricted for three-year-old colts and fillies, to be contested for mile and The Nursery Cup for two-year-old colts and fillies to be gone over six furlongs.

The entry fees for 2000 Guineas Of Pakistan is Rs3,000 and for The Nursery cup Rs2500. Entries for the two races also close on Dec 1.

Meanwhile, some form horses including Brave Act, Gold Krik, Northern Crown and Velen Day have arrived here from Lahore to feature in the contests.

It may be mentioned that Gold Krik was beaten to second place by Naseeb in The Quaid-i-Azam Gold Cup last year with Pride of Performance winning jockey Shahid Rehman in the saddle.
