MARDAN, Dec 4: The district government will provide 25 chairs and two tables to its 74 union councils each, Naib Nazim Attaur Rehman announced this here on Tuesday.
Stationary, a rake and a cupboard would also be provided for union councils’ offices each if and when the funds were available, he said and added that talks were being held with the provincial government for a number of projects, including a girls college, the second-phase of the Mardan Medical Complex and a sports complex.
Mr Rehman said efforts were also under way to overcome soil erosion, particularly in streams and canals, in order to protect its nearby buildings.
Meanwhile, the District Councillors Ittehad demanded that the government fix the salaries of Nazims and Naib Nazims.
COMPLAINT: Saadullah Khan, owner of a cigarette warehouse, has complained that police have deliberately avoided arresting thieves, who stole goods worth Rs150,000 from his warehouse a week ago.
Unidentified thieves broke into his warehouse near the PRC Market and got away with eight cartons of cigarettes worth Rs150,000.
He said he had informed police about the thieves, who, he added, had been seen selling the cartons in the market, but police were avoiding arresting them.
Three held: The complaint cell of the district Nazim has alleged that the staff Qanoongo and tehsildar are taking bribes from the area people to do their works.
On the complaints of Mohammed Nabi and Umar Shah Bachaa, complaint cell member Saddique Bachaa raided the office of the tehsil’s Qanoongo here and apprehended three touts. Girdaur Ajmal Syed and clerk Mubarak Shah escaped from the scene.
Siddique Bachaa told newsmen that the tehsil office had been turned into a bargain centre and without greasing the palms of the officials and lower staff, even legal work could not have been done there.
He said the officials had been receiving bribes from the people with the help of their touts within the premises of the office.
A councillor of Rustam Khel Waheed told newsmen that the touts had taken Rs500 in the office of Ajmal Syed Girdaur for doing a legal work.
