PESHAWAR, Dec 3: A large group of Afghan elders and chieftains, met here on Monday under the auspices of the Afghanistan National Defender Islamic Front, rejected the under-progress Bonn peace summit for being non-representative.
Two each representatives from every province of the war-torn country attended the Jirga which took exception to the under going peace talks at Bonn for, what they said, non-representative in true sense by not giving representation to Pakhtoons in proportion to their share in the total population of country.
Taking exception to the representatives of various peace- processes and warring groups participating in the Bonn peace talks, speakers questioned the public support and influence they [representatives] had got.
Majority of the speakers were of the view that the Afghans taking part in the Bonn peace talks were least credible as far as their public support back in Afghanistan was concerned.
The jirga on the occasion adopted several unanimously accepted resolutions that called for the deployment of multinational forces and that Kabul and other urban centres of the war-torn country should be demilitarized.
One of the resolutions said that multinational peace keeping force should comprise forces from different Islamic countries in Afghanistan to work for the restoration of peace.
Calling upon the United Nations Organization to influence the neighbouring countries to stop interference in the internal affairs of Afghanistan, the jirga demanded early convening of the traditional Afghan Loya Jirga under the UN auspices.
