GUJRANWALA, April 2: Christian community took out a protest procession against the US-led coalition forces’ attack on Iraq and the killing of innocent people, including women and children.
The protesters assembled at their Churches on Sialkot Road where leaders of Christian community, including former MPA Dr B. Sheela Charles, strongly criticized the US and UK aggressive policies against the Muslim countries. They also condemned heavy bombardment on civilians in Iraq.
The speakers also blamed the Anglo-American coalition for bypassing the appeals of Pope John Paul-11 and the Security Council to halt the war against Iraq.
Later, they marched on various roads, including the Grand Trunk Road, and chanted slogans against the US and UK.
Meanwhile, activists of various student organizations also held a demonstration against the US-led invasion of Iraq.
The protesting students paraded on various city roads and shouted anti-American slogans. They also set on fire effigies of the US president and the UK prime minister. The rally started from Sheranwala Bagh and terminated at Gondlanwala Chowk.
VISIT: The newly-inducted Corps Commander Lt-Gen Khalid Munir paid a visit to the industrial exhibition at Gulshan Iqbal Park on the GT Road here on Wednesday.
He took a round of various stalls and evinced keen interest in quality products. Lauding the standard of products, he suggested to look it up more to compete in the International market.
He said that an industrial triangle of Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot was an imperative for the rapid progress and prosperity of the country.
Earlier, he was warmly welcomed by local Chamber of Commerce and Industry president Khawaja Tahir Hassan and other industrialists.
FOILED: A bus crew on Wednesday foiled a robbery bid and got arrested the bandits on the GT Road near Kamoki.
The bus was on its way to Lahore when four robbers in the guise of passengers boarded the vehicle at Eminabad Morr. They whipped out pistols and started looting the passengers. In the meantime, the bus crew signalled a police party patrolling there. Taking in the situation, the police arrested all the robbers and recovered looted goods from their possession.
A case has been registered against them.
