LAKKI MARWAT, April 2: The district government is at loggerheads with provincial government over the transfer orders of more than 400 schoolteachers in the district.
Sources told Dawn on Wednesday that serious differences had surfaced between the two organizations and the component parties of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal over the action.
The sources said the MMA issued a list of 427 male and female teachers of different subjects to the education department for their immediate transfer.
Acting on the directions, the education authorities transferred 430 teachers, both male and female.
The large-scale transfers created unrest among the teachers, which has also created resentment in the ranks of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam (Sami), a component of the MMA.
Maulana Habibullah Haqqani, an MMA leader and general secretary of JUI (S), criticized JUI (F) by blaming them to have neglected the list given by them, the sources said.
He also stated that the local leadership of Jamaat-i-Islami was also embarrassed due to JUI (F)’s action as the transfers proved unpleasant for the teachers who supported Jamaat.
On the other hand, the district government took notice of the move and immediately issued cancellation of orders, giving references of local government system rules.
Meanwhile, Lakki DCO has been found nowhere in the district as both district and provincial governments are exerting pressure on him in connection with the transfers.
According to some sources, the provincial government has also ordered the DCO and education department officials to deliver the transfer orders to all teachers.
Meanwhile, District Nazim Humayun Saifullah Khan had left for Peshawar to take up the issue with provincial governor and other authorities concerned.
