PESHAWAR, April 2: A widow of Haryana village, Daudzai, has accused the local police of registering a bogus murder case against her only son.
Ms Qurysha, widow of Ghulam Sarwar, who was flanked by her two minor grand-daughters, told mediamen at a press conference here on Wednesday that on the night of Feb 18 two persons, who had covered their faces with cloth, came to a shop of his son, Ghulam Haider, for the purpose of burglary.
The “burglars” opened fire on Mr Haider when he saw them breaking the locks of the general store, she said, and added that her son also opened fire on them in retaliation in which one of the “burglars”, Naseer, a resident of the same village, was killed on the spot and his accomplice escaped during the exchange of fire.
Ms Qurysha, who claimed to be patient of cancer decease, said Mr Wazir Mohammad, father of the deceased, was aware of the illegal activities of his son and wanted to resolve the dispute. “But one of his relatives, Mr Rasheed, who is personal assistant to the chief of City Capital Police, Mr Tanveer-ul-Haq Sipra, intervened and registered a bogus murder case against Ghulam Haider,” she claimed.
The police officials were threatening the family through different influential persons and pressuring them to hand over Mr Haider, she maintained.
“The other night two persons came to the house and even threatened the minor daughters of Ghulam Haider — Farkhanda (4) and Asima (6),” she said.
The police on the pressure of Mr Rasheed, she claimed, intentionally stopped the inquiry into the attempted burglary case and even failed to apprehend the accomplice of the deceased “burglar”.
She maintained that the police could get the comments of the area people for knowing the reality and illegal activities of the deceased.
When Dawn contacted Mr Rasheed, he denied the widow’s charges, and said he did not know why Mr Haider “killed 13-year-old Naseer who was studying in class seven.”
He added: “If the applicant of the FIR escapes, it means that there is some other story behind the murder of Naseer. And it will be exposed once Ghulam Haider is arrested.”
