LAHORE, March 31: The Punjab government has finalized proposals to set up a special cell to curb heinous crime like robbery, kidnapping for ransom and gangrape and provide immediate relief to the victims.
The proposals were finalized at a meeting held here on Monday and presided over by chief minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi. Others who attended the meeting included the ministers for agriculture and law as well as senior officials.
The meeting also deliberated upon such heinous crime in which victims could not pursue their cases properly due to their poor economic conditions or undue influence exercised by their opponents. It was decided that the government would provide protection to the victims in such cases.
The chief minister also ordered the officials concerned to evolve a comprehensive strategy in this regard.
He said the government would bear the expense of competent lawyers to provide relief to the victims and make an all-out effort to protect them from the criminals.
