ISLAMABAD, March 29: President Pervez Musharraf on Saturday reconstituted the National Economic Council and transferred powers of the NEC chairman to Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali.
A notification to this effect was issued by the cabinet division on Saturday according to which President Musharraf while exercising powers conferred on him un2der Article 156 of the Constitution, reconstituted the NEC.
The notification said the prime minister, finance minister, planning minister and additional chief secretaries (development) of the Azad Kashmir government would specially be invited to the NEC meetings.
The NWFP governor will also be specially invited to the NEC meetings to represent the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata). The NEC will comprise chairman and members from federation and provinces with the prime minister being the chairman. Other members include minister for commerce, minister for communications (when appointed), minister for education, minister for environment (when appointed), minister for finance and revenue (when appointed), minister for food, agriculture and livestock, minister for health, minister for housing and works (when appointed), minister for industries and production, minister for information and media development, minister for information technology and telecommunications, minister for Kashmir affairs, Northern Areas and Safron, minister for labour, manpower and overseas Pakistanis, minister for local government and rural development (when appointed), minister for petroleum and natural resources, minister for planning and development (when appointed), minister for population welfare (when appointed), minister for privatization (when appointed), minister for railways, minister for scientific and technological research (when appointed), minister for water and power, minister for women development social welfare and special education (when appointed), adviser to the prime minister on finance, revenue, economic affairs, statistics and planning and development, adviser to the prime minister on Board of Investment and privatisation and deputy chairman, Planning Commission.
All provincial chief ministers, provincial finance ministers, provincial planning ministers, chairman, planning and development board/additional chief secretaries (development) of the provinces will also be the members of the NEC.
ECNEC: The prime minister has reconstituted the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC), says a notification issued by the cabinet secretary here on Saturday.
PM’s Adviser on Finance Shaukat Aziz will be the chairman of the committee, it said.
Federal ministers for commerce, communication (when appointed), education, environment (when appointed), food, agriculture and livestock, housing (when appointed), industries and production, information technology, telecommunications, petroleum and natural resources, planning and development (when appointed), railways, water and power, local government and rural development (when appointed), and adviser to the PM on Board of Investment and Privatization, deputy chairman, Planning Commission, will be the members of the committee.
The notification adds that the provincial finance and planning ministers and chairman, planning and development board/additional chief secretary (development) of the provinces, will also be the members of the committee.
The finance and planning ministers, and additional secretary (P&D) of the Azad Kashmir government will be specially invited to all the meetings of the committee, the notification said.
Deputy chief executive and chief secretary of the Northern Areas will also be specially invited to its meetings.
