GUJRANWALA, March 29: Gakkhar police claimed on Saturday to have registered a case against an MPA and his men, who allegedly manhandled a rural health centre in-charge after storming into his office.
While MPA Mian Mazhar Javed has lodged a complaint with the Gakkhar police that health centre in-charge Dr Muhammad Akram had humiliated him and his men.
Reports said the MPA and his men manhandled the senior medical officer when he locked the hospital’s main gate on their arrival, and opened it after 20 minutes. The visitors had come to the hospital on Friday to listen to the patients’ complaints.
On Saturday, the Pakistan Medical Association and paramedical staff of various health centres condemned the ‘attack’ on the medical officer, demanding arrest of the accused.
Meanwhile, the Markazi Anjuman-i-Tajran and other business organizations displayed banners emblazoned with slogans against the MO at various markets. They alleged that the doctor was involved in corruption, as he sold the patients’ medicines. They demanded the health higher-ups to sack the official, threatening that they would go on shutter-down strike in case of any leniency with the MO.
Taking stock of the situation, the provincial health minister has ordered an inquiry into the incident. EDO (health) is the inquiry officer.
The MPA, on the other hand, said he would table a motion at the assembly’s session.
