ROSTOCK (Germany), Dec 2: German Thomas Rupprath set a short-course world record for the 200 metres butterfly in one minute 51.21 seconds on Saturday.

Rupprath took 0.37 seconds off the previous best mark of 1:51.58 set by Frenchman Franck Esposito last January in Antibes, France.

The 24-year-old broke the record during the second day of the German short-course championships in the northern German city of Rostock.

He had started the championships in style on Friday by setting a European record for the 50 metres backstroke in 23.75 seconds before beating the German best mark for the 50 metres butterfly twice.—Reuters
