Hanif steals show

KARACHI, Dec 2: Tapal Cricket Club reached the semifinals of the 16th Karachi Gymkhana ramzan cricket tournament with an easy 61 runs victory over Sindh Police at Karachi Gymkhana Sunday.

It was Tapal’s third successive victory.

All-rounder Hanif-ur-Rehman stole the limelight in Tapal CC win. He hammered six sixes and three fours in his 43-ball 74 and later captured three wickets for 41 runs with his off-breaks to win Man-of-the-Match award.

Tapal collected 228 for three wickets in 25 overs after electing to bat first. Besides Hanif, Nomanullah scored 65 in 40 balls with three fours and a six. Ahsan Arshad (42) and Atiq-uz-Zaman (31) also showed some batting touch. Asad Ashraf Malik (2-45) bowled well for the losers.

Sindh Police, in their response, were restricted to 167 for nine despite Akif Alvi’s fighting effort. He hit seven boundaries in his 76 off 51 balls. Hanif-ur-Rehman got good support from Kamran Umer (2-23).

In the second match, Baqai Dolphins crushed A.O.CC by nine wickets thanks to 110-runs second wicket stand between Hasan Raza (53 not out) and Saeed bin Nasir (45 not out).

Hasan Raza hit five fours and two sixes in a 35-ball knock while Saeed’s 45 was laced with five hits the ropes and a six.

A.O.CC batting first could manage just 108 for 9 in 22 overs. Nadeem Shaikh made 23. M.Asif (2-8), Atiq Maqbool (2-17) and Farooq Ahmed (2-32) bowled well.

Baqai Dolphins, in reply, reached the target in 16.5 overs to register their second win.—APP
