HYDERABAD, March 28: The Sindh Abadgar Board has criticized the federal government for its decision to decrease Sindh’s share in the production of local fertilizer from 23 per cent to 11 per cent.
In a statement issued here on Friday, the SAB president, Abdul Majeed Nizamani, rejected the argument of the government that a large quantity of imported fertilizer was already available in Sindh.
He pointed out the low quality of imported fertilizer had caused huge losses to the agriculture sector of the province.
He said Sindh had made demands to the federal government several times for increase in its local fertilizer share. But, he regretted, instead of increasing the share, the government decreased it to 11 per cent.
He said the province had also not been given its due share in the NFC Award, water and development works.
Mr Nizamani demanded of the federal government to increase Sindh’s share in local fertilizer from 23 per cent to 25 per cent.
He further demanded transport subsidy for the province should also be increased.
DEVELOPMENT: The Sindh minister for local bodies, Mohammad Hussain, has said the government is giving top priority to the development of backward areas.
Speaking at a reception hosted by residents of Khuda-ki-Basti, Kotri, the other day, he said the government would make efforts to provide more facilities to people of backward areas.
He sought people’s contribution in furtherance of the objective.
He said Kotri was an industrial city but previous governments had neglected the town.
The minister said that present government would carry out development works in the province without any discrimination.
Earlier, the minister visited Railway Colony, Gopang Goth, Khanzada Colony, Bihar Colony and the Kotri taluka council office.
LUMHS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) on Thursday announced the results of entry test for admission to various postgraduate courses.
The results have been displayed at the postgraduate section of the university in Jamshoro and the Liaquat University Hospital, Hyderabad.
Those who qualified the test have been advised to report to dean, postgraduate section, up to April 7.
The university authorities also advised in-service candidates to collect their selection letters and submit no-objection certificates from their respective departments before the start of classes.
CONTRACTS: A group of contractors have accused the Taluka Municipal Officer, Matli, Sohail Memon, of issuing tenders to his favourite contractors.
Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Wednesday, they said that tenders for the development works in Matli taluka were to be issued on March 17, for which they had submitted the amount of call deposit and applications at the taluka municipal office.
The contractors said that on the scheduled date, no tender forms were issued to them but some favourite contractors of the TMO were called at his bungalow and given tender forms.
