KHAIRPUR, Nov 2: A notorious dacoit was killed while three others were arrested in an encounter with police near village Melani of taluka Gambat on Sunday.

The deceased dacoit was identified as Haji Ujjan while the arrested ones are Adalo, Pathan and Walo.

Police recovered three Kalashnikovs from their possession. SSP Khairpur Abdul Khaliq Shaikh received an information about a hideout of the dacoits outside village Melani.

Police contingents of four different police stations cordoned off the area accordingly.

The dacoits reportedly opened fire at police who returned it, resulting into the death of the bandits’ ring leader and arrest of his three accomplices.

Police claimed that Haji Ujjan was a hardened criminal and wanted by police in a number of cases of robbery, dacoity and murder.

He reportedly had attacked a village of Kaleri clan following murder of Ujjan tribal chief’s brother Mian Ijaz Ujjan some two years ago.
