Addressing a large rally organized by the IJT at the University of Peshawar on Thursday Mr Anwar said President Musharraf was blindly following US’s Iraq policy.
A large number of IJT workers drawn from universities and colleges across the province attended the rally. They were holding placards and banners, inscribed with slogans against the US, UK and Israel, and in favour of Iraq.
The US, UK, Israel, and India were spearheading terrorist activities in the world, but Muslims were being blamed for them, he said.
He wondered at the US’s outcry regarding the alleged violations of the Geneva Conventions on the right of the POWs and said the US itself was committing the worst kind of human rights violation, be it Iraq, Afghanistan or Palestine, by supporting Israel.
The IJT’s Provincial Chief, Shahab Hussain, said that holding rallies was vital to express solidarity with the Iraqi people. He said some 14 countries were suffering US aggression, but the international media was silent about it.
While speaking on the occasion, President, Peshawar Teachers Association, Arbab Khan Afridi, called for a complete boycott of American beverages. He said the western countries were capitalizing on the disunity among Muslim countries.
Mr Khan, asked the government to launch a campaign to collect relief good for the Iraqi people. He also said that all diplomatic ties with the US and UK should be severed.
Sarwar Nasim, President All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association, said that the UN’s position as peacemaker had been badly affected by US’s unilateral action against Iraq.
Mr Nasim said that Pakistan should maintain relations with the US and UK only on equal terms.
