PMC girls reject council decision

NAWABSHAH, Dec 2: The academic council of People’s Medical College (PMC) met here on Saturday and rejected students demand for re-examination and justified MBBS final year results in which 91 students were declared failed.

The Principal PMC, through the meeting, however, advised the students to submit their forms and get ready for the supplementary examinations.

However, the students have rejected the decision of the academic council and termed it a ‘mere eyewash’ and said that the professors were protecting each other.

In this regard, it was also reported that some professors, who are also the parents and guardians of the failed students, and hitherto been a part of the students campaign, have reached an underhand deal and have apologised in writing to the Principal that “they will not protest against Principal and PMC administration”.

The deal has been reportedly reached after immense pressure from the principal who had threatened the professors of dire consequences in case they continued their ‘unflinching’ support to the enraged students.

Some of the students, who requested not to be named, said that the administration was playing with their future. and complained that no action had been taken so far by the government in their case. Some of the students whose parents have close links with the establishment and Sindh secretariat, maintained that the academic council met following instructions from the Sindh health department.

Insiders said that the PMC principal had summoned the failed students and their parents into his office and warned them of dire consequences.

“Mr Yousufani himself is not regular in the college, how can he make others to be regular”, a disgruntled parent of an affected student told this correspondent

He further said that he (Yousufani) runs a private clinic at Tando Adam and on the weekends he attends clinics at Hyderabad and Karachi.

When contacted, Medical Superintendent PMCH, Dr Ali Nawaz Khoso, said that he had made several complaints to the PMC Principal PMC, who is the boss of associate professors, but no serious effort was initiated in this regard.

He said that the whole matter would be reported to the Sindh health department.

Sources said that a group of students met district Nazim Faryal Talpur and informed her about their grievances on which Ms Faryal forwarded their complaint to the Sindh governor.

Meanwhile, political parties have also came out in favour of the victimised students and chalked out programmes to hold protest meetings against the PMC administration saying that PMC was one of the best institutions but its standard had almost declined due to mismanagement.
