HYDERABAD, March 27: The Sugar Cess Development Committee, Hyderabad, at its meeting held on Thursday, approved 104 farm-to-market roads schemes.
District Nazim Dr Makhdoom Rafiquzzaman, who presided over the meeting, said Rs140 million had been allocated for the schemes under the Sugar Cess Development Fund.
Representatives of sugar mills and the local government presented their development schemes which were discussed at the meeting.
Mr Rafiquzzaman, who is the chairman of the committee, said out of the total amount, Rs71.1817 million had been earmarked for 69 schemes of Tando Mohammad Khan taluka, Rs23.492 million for 16 schemes of Hyderabad taluka, Rs23.1558 million for 10 schemes of Matiari taluka and Rs21.5734 million for nine schemes of Tando Allahyar taluka.
He said development works in other areas would also be carried out under different programmes.
He assured the management and growers of the Matiari Sugar Mills that bridge on the Rohri Canal at RD 915-916 would be constructed with an estimated cost of Rs8.6 million.
The district Nazim also gave an assurance that a road would be constructed in Alloo Palijani, Matiari taluka, at a cost of Rs5.6 million. He said tender of the approved 104 schemes would be issued within a week.
LITERACY: The EDO (community development) Hyderabad has stressed upon NGOs to participate in literacy programmes of the district government to wipe out illiteracy from society.
He was talking to a delegation of the Pakistan Junior Chamber Jaycees, which called on him at his office here on Tuesday. National president of the Jaycees was leading the delegation.
The EDO said that the government had launched various literacy projects for students of secondary schools. He sought the NGO’s help to establish girls’ community model schools in every union council.
