RAJANPUR, March 26: Three policemen kidnapped from Indus Highway two months back allegedly by Bugti tribesmen won freedom on Wednesday after the “intervention” of tribal chiefs.
Rojhan SHO Farooq Ahmad, gunman Nazar Hussain and driver Muhammad Tufail were patrolling the highway along with Rojhan DSP Rana Mansoor when over a dozen tribesmen intercepted their jeep near Pul Khakhar on the night of Jan 26.
The DSP was dropped by the abductors on way to Suleman range hills.
Sources said tribal chiefs, including Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, Sher Ali Khan Mazari, Punjab Assembly deputy speaker Shaukat Mazari and Nawab Akbar Bugti had played a role in the release of the policemen. The official jeep and guns were not returned by the abductors.
Unconfirmed reports said that two relatives of the deputy speaker, Sirajuddin and Haroon, who were also driven away from the Indus Highway a couple of weeks ago, were also released.
Who are the actual captors of the policemen and the two Mazaris is not yet clear. Shaukat Mazari had told the local press a few days ago that he knew the abductors but stopped short of making their names public.
