Maqbool says MUO handled carefully

LAHORE, March 26: Governor Khalid Maqbool has said the Model University Ordinance has been handled very carefully.

Talking to Dawn here on Wednesday, the governor, however, avoided to clearly answer about the implementation of the ordinance.

“We should forget differences and work for the promotion of educational institutions and development of universities into research houses,” he said.

Earlier, speaking at the inaugural ceremony of the Hailey College of Banking and Finance set up in the renovated building of Hailey College at Jain Mandir, he said universities should educate students in the skills which were in great demanded in the open market.

He stressed that the universities should also organize short-term refresher courses for executives to update their knowledge.

He said competent teachers should be paid well and the needy students be taken care of. At the same time, the fee should be reasonable so that students could acquire higher education.

He asked vice-chancellors to organize in-house discussions to improve courses and offer market-oriented education to students.

Principal Prof Dr Khwaja Amjad Saeed said the college would offer Banking and Finance (Honours) course after intermediate and postgraduate courses in banking, financial management, foreign trade and audit.

Being self-generating institute, he said the college would work to develop entrepreneurship skills, attitude and ethics linked with the problems of Pakistan.

Punjab University vice-chancellor Arshad Mahmood also spoke on the occasion.
