KHAIRPUR, July 25 Sindh Dost Rabita Council chairman Barrister Zameer Ghumro has said that the people of smaller provinces, particularly Sindh, will not be able to prosper unless powers of the federal government are curtailed and influence of feudal lords is abolished.
Speaking on “Recent problems of Sindh” at a programme organised by the Fikri Forum Khairpur here on Saturday, he said that waderas went to parliament with people's votes and took anti-people decisions.
“They do not object to anti-Sindh projects, including the reopening of Chashma-Jhelum link canal, construction of Diamer-Bhasha dam and Greater Thal Canal because they want to remain in power,” he said.
He said that Khairpur district had a population of 2 million and it should get at least Rs15 billion from Sindh's budget because the government received Rs1 billion royalty for gas fields in the district.
If only 20 students of the district were given foreign scholarship it would greatly help in enabling youth to get higher education but political waderas were not allowing it to be done, he said.
Bureaucrats in Sindh mostly belonged to the middle class but they were pressurised by the government and their postings and transfers were made according to the wishes of waderas and feudal lords, he said.
He said that if appointments were made on merit, the educated youth from poor families could also qualify for jobs. He said that the claims made by Sindh government about the benefits Sindh would get from the new NFC award had proved to be wrong.
