PESHAWAR, March 25: A local court on Tuesday granted bail to two women, accused of drug pushing, as they were having babies with them in the prison.
The Additional District and Sessions Judge, Sardar Irshad Mohammad Khan, directed that the applicants should be released after furnishing two sureties of Rs1,00,000 each.
The applicants, Naseem, wife of Noor Mohammad, and Farhada, wife of Mohammad Yaqoob of Jehangira, Nowshera district, were arrested by the customs officials on Aug 11, 2001, near Peshawar Cant railway station, who had recovered 7 kilograms of charas from each of them.
Both the women gave birth to children about two months back in the Central Prison, here.
The customs officials concerned did not turn up before the court to record their evidence, despite repeated court notices. Finally, the judge decided to grant bails to the applicants.
The counsel for the applicants argued that why the two infants should suffer for the faults committed by their parents.
He contended that prison was not a proper place for the babies.
The counsel further stated that the applicants should be released from the prison so that they could take care of their babies in a free environment.
