Journalists stage anti-US rally

MUZAFFARABAD, March 24: Journalists on Monday organized a march against the US attack on Iraq and to express solidarity with the Iraqi people.

The march, organized by ‘Press for Peace’ - a non- governmental organization of Kashmiri newsmen, started from Domel and concluded at the office of United Nations military observers group.

The marchers were holding banners and placards inscribed with anti-war and pro-peace slogans. “No to War, Yes to Peace,” said a banner, while two of the several placards read: “Save the Iraqis, save the humanity”, “Bombing of innocents cannot bring peace”. The marchers also chanted similar slogans.

Organizers wanted to deliver a petition for the UN secretary- general, but could not do so after a Pakistan army official told them that the UN observers were away, somewhere along the Line of Control.

“We are here to protest against the war and support the cause of peace,” PFP coordinator Khwaja Zafar Iqbal, said in the petition.

“We condemn the worst ever bombardment in human history by the US and allied forces on the Iraqi towns, which is killing and maiming innocent men, women and children,” he added. “The UN must play its role to immediately stop the war.”
