ISLAMABAD, Dec 2: Pakistan will observe the International Day for Disabled Persons on December 3, the minister for social welfare, Dr Attiya Inayatullah, said.

In a message, the minister said: “This day signifies our concern and compassion for the disabled persons of the society. It is a day to assess our faith on the teachings of Islam, and judge our progress towards mitigating the sufferings of our less fortunate brethren.”

She said the observance of the day all over the world reminded us that strategies need to be developed and programmes identified to help special persons become useful citizens.

“This is a noble objective which requires cooperation and help from public and private sectors,” she added.

Dr Attiya said it was a matter of satisfaction that some NGOs were trying to help special persons.
