HYDERABAD, March 24: The Sindh Agriculture Forum has demanded of the irrigation authorities to increase water supply to Tando Kaiser Minor and Bilori Minor of Rohri Canal.

In a statement issued here on Monday, the forum president, Noor Ahmed Nizamani, said that the lands, owned and used for research purpose by the Agriculture Research Institute, the Sindh Agriculture University and the Nuclear Institute of Agriculture, Tando Jam, were entirely dependent on water supplied by Tando Kaiser Minor.

He said that acute shortage of water, in the waterways, fed by Ghotana Distributary, had adversely affected crops of the SAU and the research institutes.

He warned that if water was not supplied in proper quantity to the waterways, millions of rupees, invested by the research institutes, would be wasted and the Sindh farmers would not benifit from the research, conducted by the institutes.

He concluded that the research institutes and the agriculture university had repeatedly requested the higher authorities to provide enough water to the water channels so that normal agriculture research activity could be conducted.

HSC EXAMS: A meeting was held here on Saturday to review arrangements for the intermediate examinations, scheduled to commence from April 22.

According to Sindh Professors and Lecturers Association additional secretary Prof Tariq Qureshi, a delegation of the SPLA called on Hyderabad Board of Education chairman Prof Sultan Abbas Naqvi.

The meeting resolved the Sindh home secretary would be moved by the board to impose section 144 Cr. PC. at examination centres for protection of college teachers.

It was also resolved admit slips, enrolment cards and the list of examination centres would be sent to colleges at least 15 days before the commencement of the examinations.

The meeting decided appointment orders to external superintendents would be dispatched at least 15 days before the examinations and no recommendations would be accepted in this regard. Principals of colleges where examination centres were established would be appointed as internal superintendents, it added.

To eliminate copy culture, it was decided to appoint vigilance teams, comprising senior college teachers, and to enhance their powers.

Women teachers would be deputed at girls colleges to conduct practical examinations and a teacher would conduct only one practical, it was resolved.

It also said recommendations would be submitted to the board of governors to increase conveyance and examinations fees of teachers.
