DADU MAY 22 On the call of the the Shopkeepers Association, a complete strike was observed in Jamshoro on Saturday in protest against the murder of a shopkeeper named Abdul Jabbar in the town on Thursday.
Some armed men had lobbed a petrol bomb and opened fire on an auto spare parts shop in Jamshoro town, opposite LUMHS shopping centre. Two brothers Abdul Jabbar and Abdul Qadir were injured in the late Thursday night attack.
They were taken to LUMHS hospital in Jamshoro and later shifted to the Hyderabad city branch where Abdul Jabbar died.
Main Shahi Bazaar, the Indus Highway road, Sandoz road, LUMHS road and other parts of Jamshoro town remained closed.
Shopkeepers and people — led by the association's president Dodo Khan, general secretary Zaheer Kandhro and slain shopkeer's brother Amanullah — took out a procession and staged a demonstration on the Super Highway.
Speaking in front of the Jamshoro press club, Dodo Khan said that police had failed to arrest the murderers of Abdul Jabbar Pathan and added that in this situation, businessmen were unsafe.
He attributed increase in the crime rate in Jamshoro town to an inefficiency of police and demanded immediate arrest of the accused in the murder case of Abdul Jabbar.
Later, the protesters left Jamshoro for Hyderabad.
Meanwhile, Jamshoro police has taken remand of Sattar Chawaro, taluka president of the Jeay Sindh Tahreek of Jamshoro (Dr Sarki group), Ashraf Chawro, taluka president of the JSQM of Jamshoro (Bashir group), two others Javed and Rehan for five days, from the court of first civil judge Kotri.
They were arrested by police in raids on Friday night.
Talking to this correspondent, Jamshoro SP investigation Mohammad Ayoub Brohi claimed that police had seized one Kalashnikov, three TT pistols and a number of bullets from the possession of arrested persons. He claimed that a police party had arrested them after an encounter while they were carrying illegal weapons on Friday night in a rickshaw near toll plaza.
He alleged that they were involved in the murder of Abdul Jabbar.
He said that police were interrogating around the 24 arrested persons who were arrested from different places in Jamshoro district. If anyone was found innocent, he would be released, he added.
Our Hyderabad Bureau Adds Activists of the Pukhtoon Students Federation and Awami National Party staged a rally from Haider Chowk to the local press club in protest against target killing of Pakhtoons and, particularly, the murder of Abdul Jabbar.
Speaking on the occasion, Jamshoro ANP president Gulla Khan Mehsud, chief organiser of Hyderabad Shahid Ali and PkSF leader Jehanzeb Buneri said that terrorists were targeting Pakhtoons in Sindh to destroy peace of the province.
They said that Pukhtoons believed in non-violence because they were the followers of Bacha Khan but this should not be taken as their weakness, they warned.
They appealed to the authorities order arrest of the murderers of Abdul Jabbar.
