ISLAMABAD, March 22: President Gen Pervez Musharraf has granted remission in sentences to prisoners on the Pakistan Day.
A remission of 90 days has been given to prisoners sentenced to life imprisonment and 45 days to other convicts, except those convicted of murder, espionage, anti-state activities, sectarianism, Zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping, abduction, terrorism and the Foreigners Act.
The remissions will be admissible provided the convicts have undergone two-thirds of their imprisonment.
Total remission will be given to men who are 65 years of age or above and women of 60 years and above age who have undergone at least one-third of their imprisonment, except those involved in culpable homicide and terrorist acts.
A remission of one year will be given to women prisoners who have accompanying children and are imprisoned for crimes other than culpable homicide and terrorism.
A total remission will be given to juvenile convicts who have served one-third of their sentence except those involved in culpable homicide, terrorist acts, Zina, robbery, dacoity, kidnapping and abduction and anti-state activities.
Those convicted in cases processed by the NAB will not be entitled to any remission.—APP
