PESHAWAR, March 22: The Aurat Foundation, a non-governmental organisation, has praised the provincial government for terming honour killings, Swara and women’s trafficking as illegal and punishable acts.
According to a press statement issued here on Saturday, the foundation appreciated the decision of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal government to punish those who would violate the marital rights and inheritance right.
NWFP Chief Minister Akram Durrani had announced at a press conference on Friday night that women would be given their due rights in accordance with Islamic teachings in the NWFP. He had said honour killing should be treated as a wilful murder.
A spokesman of the foundation said legislation on the women issues would curb the exploitation of women.
