Super Star on song to capture main event

LAHORE,  March 21: Three-year-old bay colt Super  Star  looks favourite to pick up the spoils in the Ghazali Cup featuring  the card  of six events drawn for the 24th Lahore Winter  Meeting  to held at the Racecourse on Saturday.

Races scheduled for Sunday have been advanced by a day due to Pakistan Day falling on that day.

Contesting in the Class V Division I handicap race among 11 runners,  to be run over the sprinting distance of  1200  metres, Super Star stands out. A son of Cisco Well out of Madhu Bala, the shapely bay colt has already won two races on the trot and will be going all out to make it three in-a-row.

Top weight Storm Bird, Rukhtas Again and lowly placed  Rukhsh should provide the main challenge in this race, the fifth event of the afternoon.

The seven-year-old  Australian-bred  chestnut,  who  has  so  far failed  to justify his blood-line rating in his last two  outings but should  not let his followers by making amends this  time  in the Lyrical Plate, a class IV division I handicap race to be  run over 1200 metres. He should be followed by Prime Force and  Sound Of  Music in a small field of seven runners. African Knight is  a son  of  Sir Tristram, a champion thoroughbred of  Newzealand  in early 1990s. African Knights performance on the track so far  is unexpected of his high class breeding. Something seems amiss  his training. This will be the fourth race in racing order.

In  all,  six events have been carded, four to  be  contested over  1200 metres and two over 1000 metres. The first  race  will begin at 1.30 pm.

Meanwhile, the Lahore Race Club (LRC) stewards have directed all owners to try their runners, if they are more than one in an event. All no try horses belonging to such owners will be denied margin  of  running in the handicap. The owners  have  also  been directed  to  get prior permission for a horse to be led  by  his syce  to  the starting gates. Those violating the order  will  be fined, a notification issued by the LRC said.
