SUKKUR, March 21: Processions were taken out in major cities and towns of Sindh on Friday while a strike was observed in some cities to protest against the US attack on Iraq.
A big procession was taken out in Sukkur after Juma prayers on the call of Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal to express anger against the US-led war on Iraq.
Participants carrying banners and placards inscribed with anti-US slogans also condemned the US aggression.
Earlier in the day a complete strike was observed in the city by traders and shopkeepers, bringing the entire business activity to a halt. Traffic remained thin and main thoroughfares wore a deserted look. However, no untoward incident was reported.
Protest meetings on the call of MMA were also held in Kashmor, Shikarpur, Ghotki, Kandhkot, Thul and other parts of the interior of Sindh.
Jacobabad: Different protest rallies were taken out here on Friday to condemn the US-led attack on Iraq.
The rallies were taken out after the Friday prayers and were addressed by A. G. Ansari, Saeed Ahmed, Ali Hassan Buriro and Abdul Basit Shah.
Meanwhile, special prayers were also offered at various mosques here for the victory of Iraq, while speakers on the occasion condemned the attack.
Shikarpur: Workers of the MMA and the Islami Jamiat-e-Tulaba on Friday took out rallies here against the military action on Iraq by the US and its ‘coalition of the willing.’
LARKANA: Protest against the US attack on Iraq continued in different parts of Larkana district on Friday.
In Larkana city, the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal took out a procession against the Iraq war.
The procession emerged from the city office of the Jamaat-i-Islami and terminated at the Pakistan Chowk. Later, the protesters put a US flag on fire.
The MMA took out another procession in Mirokhan where a complete strike was also observed.
Around 600 people participated in the procession.
Khairpur: Anti-war processions and demonstrations were staged here on Friday in 10 towns of the district.
In Thari Mirwah, people took to the streets after the Friday prayers and set ablaze effigies of US President George Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Demonstrations were also held in Khairpur, Faiz Ganj, Priyaloi, Kolab Jial, Gambat and other towns against US-led coalition attack on Iraq. Protesters raised anti-war slogans and called for an immediate end to war. US flags were also set on fire at some places.
DADU: A large rally was taken out on Friday by the workers of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal, which originated from the Ghousia Mosque and terminated at the local press club, to condemn the US-led attack on Iraq.
Protesters, who were carrying anti-war banners and placards, were raising slogans against US President George Bush and UK Prime Minister Tony Blair.
Nawabshah: The MMA’s call for strike on Friday had no effect anywhere in the Nawabshah district.
However, the MMA staged a demonstration outside the Kabir Mosque, Gol Chakra, after the Friday prayers.
Naushahro Feroze: Workers of the MMA took out rallies on Friday in Naushahro Feroze, Kandiaro and Mithiani against the US-led attack on Iraq.
Protesters, who took out a rally after the Friday prayers in Naushahro Feroze from the Pir Mosque, marched through the Shahi Bazaar and the National Highway and terminated at the local press club.
In Kandiaro, a rally was taken out, led by Maulvi Mohammad Idrees, district president of the JUI-F while the rally in Mithiani was led by Maulvi Abdul Majeed of the JUI-F.
SANGHAR: A complete shutter down strike was observed on Friday in Shahdadpur against the US-led invasion of Iraq on the call of the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal.
Hundreds of protesters, who had gathered at the Makkah Masjid Chowk after the Friday prayers, reached the local press club after marching through main city roads.
They were carrying anti-war banners and placards and were raising slogans against US President George W. Bush and British Prime Minister Tony Blair. They also burnt an effigy of Mr Bush.
Thatta: The MMA could not muster public support in the district for its nation-wide call for protest against the US-led attack on Iraq except in Sujawal where workers of the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam took out a procession.

hyderabad: a large number of MMA workers staged a protest rally from the Aurangzeb Mosque, which terminated at the local press club. The participants of the rally raised slogans against President Bush and Prime Minister Tony Blair.
