PESHAWAR, March 21: A six-year-old girl playing outside her home, was crushed under the wheels a police pick-up in front of Bhana Mari Police Station here on Friday.

Nayyab, daughter of Tariq Khan, was playing outside her house opposite the Bhana Mari Police Station when a police pick-up, which drove in full speed out of the police station, ran over the minor girl.

The wounded girl was immediately taken to the Lady Reading Hospital, but she died on her way to hospital.

The tragic incident sent a wave of shock in the locality and the area people took to the streets and started chanting slogans against the care-free attitude of the police party concerned.

The charged mob blocked the Ramdas Bazaar and adjoining lanes for all types of vehicular traffic.

They demanded an immediate action against the police party riding the pick-up.

The area people alleged that the police were pressurising the poor family for striking a settlement with them.

The police were reluctant to register an FIR against the policemen involved in the tragic episode.

Later, the capital city police chief, DIG Tanveerul-Haq Sipra, ordered the Bhana Mari Police Station to register an FIR against the reckless police pick-up driver.

The Bhana Mari Police Station said they had arrested driver Mehboob Rehman on various charges. Later, the enraged residents dispersed peacefully and opened the roads for vehicular traffic.
