LAHORE, March 19: The Punjab Professors and Lecturers Association on Wednesday resolved against government’s decision to return FC College to Presbyterian Church and to revive denationalization of educational institutions.

The PPLA units all over the province organized meetings and passed resolutions in this regard.

The Save FC College Committee of the PPLA’s also held a protest meeting on the campus.

Joint Action Committee chairman Nazim Hasnain and others, including Prof Yasmin Rashid, Muhammad Zaheeruddin, Azam Butt, Taufiq Butt, Fakhar Laleka, Saleem Mansoor Khalid spoke at the meeting.

They demanded that the government should withdraw its decision to return FC College to the church.

The speakers pledged that the JAC would ‘save’ all nationalized educational institutions in the province from ‘privatization’.

Meanwhile, the JAC leaders held talks with District Nazim Mian Amer Mahmood, Punjab education secretary, DCO, DPO and Lahore SSP.

The JAC leader explained to them the committee’s point of view about denationalization of educational institutions, constitution of boards of governors and reinstatement of sacked college teachers.

The JAC chairman later announced that the central committee meeting of the committee has been convened in Lahore on March 24 to finalize future course of action.

He also said that a protest demonstration would be held in the FC College on Thursday (today).

PROTEST DAY: The Islami Jamiat-i-Tulaba observed protest day in all city colleges against government’s decision to return the FC College to the church.

A heavy contingent of police deployed outside the FC College gates searched all students, teachers and visitors before allowing them to enter the campus.

An IJT spokesman said that the Formanites boycotted classes and observed sit-in in front of the office of college principal. They also chanted slogans against police officials for torturing and creating problems for students.
