LARKANA, Dec 1: Responding to the call of Sindh Employees Alliance (SEA) teachers of primary, high schools and colleges boycotted academic activities in Larkana district on Saturday.
The SEA is protesting against the mandatory test for B.Ed and M.Ed increments.
The SEA and the Sindh education department are poles apart over the step that has led to continued boycott of classes by the teachers, which has been severely affecting students.
The SEA leaders, Liaquat Daidar, Bashir Samo, speaking at a protest meeting urged the government to drop the idea of holding tests for increments and accept the charter of demands of the teachers’ community.
They called for action against the officials involved in beating teachers in Hyderabad and Sukkur on Dec 25 last.
BADIN: The schools and colleges in Badin town and other parts of the district remained closed on the fifth consecutive day on Saturday as teachers took out rally to protest against the test and other problems confronting the teaching community.
A protest meeting was held at the Government High School, Badin, on Saturday which was attended by almost all the representatives of sister organisation of Sindh Teachers Alliance.
The leaders of the alliance, Prof Abdullah Mallah, Ramzan Junejo, Siddique Soomro and Mohammad Lakho, said that the educational activities would remain suspended by the alliance till the acceptance of their demands.
They alleged that the secretary of education, Sindh, was spoiling the peaceful atmosphere in educational institutions.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Hundreds of teachers of primary, middle and secondary schools, on the call of Sindh Employees Alliance, protested against B.Ed and M.Ed test on Saturday opposite the local press club. They were chanting slogans against the secretary of education.
SHIKARPUR: On the call of the central leadership of Sindh Employees Alliance, the teachers observed strike and staged demonstration in the premises of the Government Primary Boys School, Lakhi Gate, here on Saturday.
They were pressing the government for the acceptance of their charter of demands.
SUKKUR: About 300 school teachers took out a protest rally against the proposed increment test imposed by the secretary of education, Sindh.
The protesting teachers marched through the main thoroughfares of the city and terminated at the Press Club, Ghotki.
They set on fire the effigy of Sindh education secretary Nazar Mohammad Maher.
Later they held a protest meeting and in a unanimous resolution demanded of the government to withdraw the condition of test for the increment of teachers.
