PESHAWAR, Oct 10: A suspicious person was taken in custody by the local police after a hand grenade went off near him here on Jamrud Road.

The person was rushed to Hayatabad Medical Complex and was admitted there.

Eyewitnesses said the suspect was having a hand grenade and had also pulled out its clip. They claimed that a police party spotted him near Kacha Garhi camp, on road side.

While overpowering the suspect the police severely beat him. In the meantime, the grenade which had fallen from the suspect exploded. However, no major casualty occurred.

Officials of the police station concerned said the suspect was mentally deranged and he might have picked the grenade from somewhere.
