LAHORE, March 16: A master plan has been finalised for the maintenance of historic buildings in the province.
In a briefing to the provincial Minister for Culture and Youth Affairs Chaudhry Shaukat Ali Bhatti, Director General Dr Liaqat Ali Niazi said the provincial archaeology department had initially allocated Rs500,000 and posted staff for looking after the tomb of Shahabudin Ghauri near Sohawa in Jhelum district.
The tomb was established by well-known scientist Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan at a cost of Rs15 million.
The minister was informed that the archaeology department had completed a survey of Chakwal and Attock districts for digging out the history of these areas, and repaired 26 historic buildings and monuments. The minister said that Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi had given him a special task to revive the image of the archaeology department among the general public. —APP
