PESHAWAR, March 16: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah on Saturday assured the University of Peshawar of his full support in its establishing a campus in Abu Dhabi.
If materialised, this would be the first Pakistani university to open a campus in the United Arab Emirates.
The assurances came at a meeting with UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Ali Mohammad Al Shamsi, who had called on the governor to invite him to attend the 20th anniversary celebrations of the Sheikh Zayed Islamic Centre at the University of Peshawar.
Vice-Chancellor of Peshawar University Syed Zulfiqar Hussain Gillani was also present on the occasion.
The ambassador said the UAE was willing to increase cooperation in the field of technical education to improve literacy in the NWFP through the Sheikh Zayed Centres.
The governor pointed out that relations between Pakistan and the UAE relations were deep-rooted and hoped that they would further strengthen with the time. He welcomed the UAE’s support in the promotion of education in the province.
