KARACHI, March 16: Two men were found dead in mysterious circumstances in the city on Sunday.

However, the police claimed that a man killed his friend and later he himself committed suicide. Zahid, aged 24, and Ghulam Sarwar, aged 17, were found dead in a house at Kausar Niazi Colony. Both men had tattoos on their wrists.

The police said Zahid used to visit his friend Sarwar at his house. On Sunday evening neighbours heard shots fired inside the house. When they knocked at the door there was no reply from inside. The police were informed.

The police broke the door down and found Zahid and Sarwar dead.

The police said Sarwar had a bullet injury to the left side of his chest. Zahid had almost a similar injury.

The SHO of Hyderi police post told Dawn that, according to initial investigations, Sarwar had shot Zahid in the chest, and later he shot himself at almost the same spot.

He said recently Sarwar visited his native town where his marriage proposal was finalized and he was to get married soon.

The police found a pistol and two bullet empties from the spot.

Both the bodies were sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

PRISONER DIES: An elderly prisoner died of a heart failure in a hospital on Sunday morning.

A statement issued by Rashid Saeed, the Superintendent of Central Prison, Karachi, said Rafique, aged 70, son of Mehtab Ali, died of a heart failure in the NICVD. Earlier, he had been admitted to the jail hospital for a heart problem.

On March 12, on the advice of the chief medical officer of Central Prison, he was referred to the NICVD.

Rafique was sentenced to life imprisonment in a kidnapping for ransom case, the statement added.

ROAD ACCIDENTS: A young man died and his companion was injured in a road accident in North Nazimabad on Sunday.

The police said Mohammed Farhan, aged 25, and his friend Asif were travelling on a motorcycle in North Nazimabad when the motorcycle skidded.

Both men were injured. They were rushed to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital where doctors pronounced Farhan dead on arrival. Asif was admitted to the hospital.

A teenager died when he fell from a moving vehicle near Airport.

The police said Raz Ali, aged 18, fell from a Suzuki pickup on Sharea Faisal and suffered a serious head injury. He was rushed to Jinnah Post-graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) where doctors declared him dead on arrival. He was an activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and unit in charge of the Gulbahar sector 168 of the party.

The dead man was going to Surjani Town to collect rent from his tenants.

KILLED: A labourer was killed in New Karachi Industrial Area late Saturday night.

The police said unknown men entered the house of Fida Husain, aged 55, in Khamiso goth and stabbed him to death while he was sleeping.

The dead man was a labourer, and he lived with his blind mother.

The body was sent to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem.

INJURED: Several firemen were injured when their fire-tender overturned at Chamra Chowrangi in Korangi Industrial Area on Sunday.

The police said a fire-tender of Boulton Market fire station was returning to the fire station when it overturned in Korangi Industrial Area.

As a result, driver Faiz Mohammed and firemen Maqbool Ahmed, Inyatullah and Abdul Rafiq were injured. They were taken to the JPMC.
