PESHAWAR, March 15: United Arab Emirates Ambassador Ali Mohammad Shamsi on Saturday underscored the need for cementing cooperation among the Muslim countries in science and technology.

Speaking at the celebration of the 20th anniversary of Shaykh Zayed Islamic Centre at Peshawar University, he said institutions like the centre needed to diversify to science and technology and other fields. He assured continued support to the centre and other institutions by the UAE government.

Peshawar University Vice-Chancellor Dr Zulfiqar Hussain Gilani said the centre would promote cultural, intellectual and academic cooperation between the countries. Director of the centre, Dr Abdul Ghafoor, said that MA Quran studies, MA Islamyat, MPhil and computer literacy classes had been introduced.

He asked the education ministry and the UAE to increase their grant.—APP
