GUJRAT, March 10: Civil hospitals in Mandi Bahauddin district have no female doctors who could perform autopsies.
In case of a murder or other tragedy, relatives’ agony piles up as they have to run from pillar to post to get the needful done.
In a latest case from Khizar, Malikwal, where a girl committed suicide, relatives were seen shuttling between different offices and hospitals on Monday.
Reportedly, Parveen (16) shot herself on Sunday in Khizar, Mandi Bahauddin district. The area police sent her body to the Mandi Bahauddin DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
Staff there informed the heirs that the hospital did not have a lady doctor and referred the body to the Malikwal THQ hospital. There, the duty doctors also showed their inability in the absence of a lady doctor and asked them to contact the Mandi EDO health.
The EDO referred them to his counterpart in Gujrat who directed the medical superintendent of the local DHQ Hospital to make arrangements for the autopsy but the later refused to accommodate them.
“It’s over 30 hours now that we have been made rolling stone,” said a cousin of the girl. “Now we are going back to the Gujrat EDO.”
Shootout: A dozen gunmen on Monday attacked the residence of a lawyer on Bhimber Road, near Mehmada Chowk.
Reportedly, alleged property grabbers equipped with arms and ammunition gathered outside the residence of Chaudhry Afzal Asif (advocate) and asked inmates to vacate the house. When no-one came out, they resorted to aerial firing.
Meanwhile, someone from inside returned the fire. Terrified neighbours said the shooting which erupted at 2pm continued for more than 30 minutes. It spread panic in the locality, they said,
The area police reached the spot and managed to catch some of the assailants. No case was registered till the filling of this report in the evening.
When contacted, the moharrar of the Civil Lines police station said DPO Raja Munawwar was busy in interrogating both the complainant and the assailants.
Meanwhile, a man with the help of his two accomplices shot dead his father over a property dispute in Marala Gujran, Kharian, on Sunday.
Khan Abbas and his two companions opened fire on Ejaz Ahmad and escaped.
