LAHORE, March 10: The Election Tribunal comprising Justice Mian Hamid Farooq on Monday adjourned the hearing of an election petition against Punjab Food Minister Chaudhry Muhammad Iqbal for March 27.
The petition filed by Arqam Khan, a defeated candidate from PP-98, Gujranwala, had submitted that the respondent was defaulter of Rs2,80,753 of utility bills and he had also concealed facts while filing nomination papers.
The tribunal taking up another election petition of Chaudhry Shafaqat Husain for disqualification of MPA Mudassar Qayyum from PP-102, Gujranwala, adjourned it for March 27.
The court directed the respondent MPA to file reply next hearing.
The petitioner had submitted that the respondent had passed his F.A and B.A examinations on a bogus matric certificate. He requested the court to declare his election as illegal and disqualify him.
ELITE FORCE: An accountability court on Monday reserved judgement in the Elite Force reference till March 19.
The reference involves officials of the Elite Police who in connivance with their counterparts from the AG office had swindled Rs400 million by forging signatures of Elite Police Commandant Col Tariq Ehtisham (retired).
The officer was acquitted by the NAB after investigation.
FATIYANA: The Election Tribunal comprising Justice Rustam Ali Malik of the Lahore High Court on Monday adjourning the hearing of an election petition for the disqualification of MNA Riaz Fatiyana for March 24 summoned witnesses.
The election petition filed by ex-federal minister and PPPP leader Khalid Ahmad Khan Kharal through Munir Ahmad Khan and Khwaja Haris had submitted that an accountability court had awarded five years imprisonment and Rs1 million fine and three years imprisonment and Rs1 million fine, respectively, in two references of plot allotment and illegal appointments. And he was also disqualified to contest elections but he was allowed to participate in the polls.
He said that Fatiyana appeals were still pending with the LHC appellate bench.
He requested the court to take notice and disqualify him and declare his election as illegal and without lawful.—APP
