BADIN: Water crisis hits towns of Badin

BADIN, March 10: Water supply to several towns of the district has been suspended for the last couple of weeks as water is not being provided from the irrigation canals which have become dry.

The most hard hit towns are Tando Bago, Shaheed Fazil Rahu, Kudhan and Kario Ganhwar, the population of which is depending on water supply by tankers.

Taking an undue advantage of the persisting water shortage, the tanker owners are doing a roaring business as even a donkey cart owner charges Rs60 for ten canisters of water.

Residents of the rural areas have no option but to endanger their health by consuming contaminated stagnant water of ponds.

Time and again, small and big processions have been taken out against water shortage in different towns but the district, taluka and union councils have failed to resume water supply.

Residents of the affected towns hold the civic authorities responsible for their failure to store water at the pumping stations.

The people have appealed to the Sindh governor and chief minister for immediate measures to overcome the water crisis.
