PESHAWAR, March 7: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) suffered heavy financial losses, as a result of damage done to its equipment and power supply lines and disruption of power supply in the northern NWFP, due to heavy snowfall
The power supply system in Dir, Chitral, Shangla, Kalam, Malam Jabba and Miandum got broken down on several occasions.
“Wapda’s installations including power distribution lines and several of the electricity transformers were dama-ged due to snowfall causing huge financial losses to the authority,” said a press release issued here on Friday by the Peshawar Electricity Supply Company (Pesco) — a subsidiary organization of Wapda.
Initial estimates reflect that Wapda’s feeder wise financial losses in the said areas stood at Rs6.98 million, contained the press release.
Necessary spare parts have been arranged to repair the damaged electricity distribution system in the snow affected parts of the province.
Power supply has been restored to several of the areas which experienced power break down in the recent past due to heavy snowfall and rains.
Several of the Pesco staff, claimed the press release, got injured during the course of repairing the broken down power distribution lines in the mountainous regions.
Power supply to Kalam, Dir and Chitral is being made from the old 33 kv distribution system.
