PESHAWAR, March 6: The NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has stressed the managements of educational institutions, especially those of universities, to focus on quality education to enable the nation to compete at international level.
He said this while addressing at the inaugural ceremony of a new campus of the City University, Peshawar here on Thursday.
The ceremony, besides a large number of prominent educationists and citizens, was attended by managements of private educational institutions.
The education, the governor said, enhanced our abilities of rational thinking, promoted logical analysis, developed pragmatic response on issues which belonged to everyday life. In fact, he observed, it determined the future of a nation and made nations civilized and advanced.
In our country, Mr Shah said, we have plenty of human and natural resources which are still unutilized due to our inability to harness them. “The earlier we realize this fact, the better it is for us,” he remarked.
It was this realization, the NWFP governor claimed, we have embarked upon an ambitious educational programme. The initiative to activate the Frontier Education Foundation (FEF), in the field of higher education, and creation of the Frontier Elementary Education Foundation (FEEF) to strengthen school sector, were such steps in this regard, he said.
The governor said we are living in an era of science and technology, where only those nations can survive and maintain their sovereignty, which are highly advanced in this field. To meet this objective, he remarked, the NWFP government has encouraged the private sector to share the responsibility and contribute towards the development of higher education.—PPI
