ISLAMABAD, March 6: The Supreme Court on Thursday ordered the accountability court not to “cause any prejudice” to Jehangir Badar, the imprisoned leader of PPP, and allow him to produce “defence witnesses and summon record” to prove his innocence.

The SC bench, comprising Justice Chaudhry Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal, took up the review petition of Mr Badar, requesting the court to withdraw the condition of day-to-day hearing.

The SC bench had ordered a few days ago that if the case of Mr Badar, pending before the accountability court Lahore, was not concluded within thirty days, he should be released on bail.

Mr Badar, apprehending adverse verdict within thirty days, moved the court for withdrawal of the condition of concluding the trial within thirty days.

Advocate Akram Sheikh on Thursday requested the court to either dilute or withdraw the condition of completing the trial within thirty days.

He said the prosecution was hostile to his client, and he feared that he would be condemned unheard. The counsel said the trial judge had converted the day-to-day trial into moment-to-moment one.

He produced some record of the trial court on which it was observed by Justice Rana Bhagwandas and Justice Mian Mohammad Ajmal that the trial court judge was “overdoing.”
