HYDERABAD, March 5: Leader of the opposition in the Sindh Assembly, Nisar Ahmed Khuhro, on Wednesday accused the present rulers of trying to create hatred between the provinces besides destroying the agricultural economy of Sindh.

He said this while speaking at a meeting of the workers of the PPP Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas districts.

Blaming the ruling elite of having thrust upon Sindh a minority government, saying it had led to lawlessness in the province resulting in so any deaths.

Mr Khuhro said that during the past week, 35 persons had lost their lives.

Stressing the need for real democracy, Mr Khuhro said that government could not be run without it and people’s problems would remain unresolved.

Accusing the rulers of being adamant regarding controversial projects like Thal Canal, he said it would engender poverty in the province.

During the course of the meeting, he constituted various committees in connection with the 24th death anniversary of the PPP’s founder, late Z. A. Bhutto.

Various speakers, including Qazi Asad Abid, Rashid Rabbani, Maula Bux Chandio, as well as MNAs and MPAs from Hyderabad and Mirpurkhas districts and women and Hari leaders, congratulated Khuhro for having a resolution passed against the Thal Canal besides promoting the Sindhi language in the provincial assembly.

Demanding of the government to immediately stop the construction of Thal Canal, the participants of the meeting condemned the murder of the brother-in-law of the PPP’s acting secretary-general.

They called for an end to the atrocities allegedly committed by the Shirazi group against the people of Thatta.

Condemning the murder of Hubdar Leghari in Qasimabad, the meeting demanded of the authorities to arrest his killers.

The meeting also expressed its concern over the devastation caused by rains and demanded of the government to pay compensation to those killed during the rains.
