KARACHI: PhDs to get special allowance

KARACHI, March 5: The Sindh government will grant a special science and technology allowance of Rs5,000 a month to all PhD degree holders who work in research and development organizations, universities, science and technology institutions/centres in the following subjects, with effect from Jan 1, 2003:

Agriculture, Animal Science/ Veterinary Sciences, Biology, Biotechnology, Chemistry, Computer Science/Engineering/Information Technology/ Telecommunication, Electronics, Engineering, Food Science and Technology, Geology, Materials Science/Metallurgy, Mathematics, Medical Science, Meteorology, Ocean Science, Pharmaceutical, Physics and Space Science.

Scientists having PhD degrees in the relevant fields and with at least five-year post-doctoral research experiences should be supported with tangible proof to be determined by the Pakistan Council for Science and Technology and those who are working on administrative posts and are not actively engaged in research shall not be entitled to get the allowance. The recipients of the allowance shall cease to get the Rs1,500 PhD allowance drawn by them at present.—PPI
