VEHARI, March 4: District Coordination Officer Imtiaz Tajwar transferred Vehari EDO (health) Dr Dure Shahwar Hamdani on Tuesday and ordered her to report to the Punjab health secretary.

Dr Hamdani refused to hand over the charge to Dr. Chaudhry Riasat Ali who was made acting EDO by the DCO.

Dr Chaudhry, the medical superintendent of the Vehari DHQ Hospital, entered the office of the EDO (health) after breaking its lock with the help of some health department officials.

The DCO has transferred Dr Hamdani on charges of negligence of duty and corruption. She has filed a writ petition in the Lahore High Court, challenging her transfer. The court is likely to take up the matter on March 7.

PROTEST: Over 100 people took out on Tuesday a protest procession against XEN Mahmood Amjad, who ordered demolition of 70 makeshift shops during operation clean-up two days ago.

They blocked Vehari-Hasilpur Road for traffic for about one hour, raised slogans against the XEN and demanded compensation for the affected people.

They vowed to continue their protest till the acceptance of their demands.

However, on the assurance of MNA Riaz Pirzada’s brother Sajjad Pirzada the protesters dispersed peacefully.
