LARKANA, March 1: The sessions court, Larkana, on Saturday, allowed a minor girl, Nawabzadi, whose father was forcing her to marry a 60-year old man to whom he had sold her, to go with her mother.

On the court order, the Behram police produced the girl, her father, Ghulam Qadir Brohi, mother and the prospective bridegroom, Wali Mohammad Sochi, in the court.

When advocate Amanullah Shaikh, pleading the petition against the forcible marriage, asked the girl about her marriage plan, she confirmed it.

The advocate pointed out that her hands were coloured with henna, which might indicate preparation for the wedding.

However, during cross-examination, Sochi denied that he was marrying the girl.

Father of the girl, in his written statement, claimed that he was not going to marry her minor daughter with the old man.

He also promised that even after her daughter attained the age of adulthood, he would not force her for marriage and would seek her consent for the purpose.

He said that if he violated the commitment he had made in the court, he stood to be tried in accordance with the law.

After the statement, the petitioner, Mohammad Jumman, brother of the girl, did not press the petition and the court disposed it off as anfractuous.

The court also allowed the girl to go with her mother.

The petition was filed in the court on Thursday in which it was alleged that Brohi had sold the girl to Sochi for Rs50,000 and was forcing her to marry the old man.

FIR: An FIR has been registered against the chairman, controller and assistant controller of examinations of the Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education, Larkana, for attacking and injuring peaceful protestors.

The ASP City, Mohammed Alam Shinwari said that a case had been lodged under section 337 F-1, 147, 148, 504 and 114 PPC.
