PESHAWAR, March 1: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has appealed to the religious scholars and leading figures to work towards creating harmony between various sects.
The chief minister said this while talking to a delegation of Islami Tehrik Pakistan, led by its provincial president Alama Muhammad Ramazan Tauqir, at the Frontier’s House on Saturday.
The chief minister said that the MMA was a religio-political party and had its roots in the masses. The alliance, he said, wanted to creating religious harmony not only in the NWFP but in the whole of Pakistan.
“The MMA government would never allow a handful of people to disturb peace in the province,” the CM said while referring to the precautionary measures taken for maintaining law and order during the month of Muharram.
The CM said, he was personally monitoring the law enforcement agencies’ performance .
He said, besides safeguarding Muslims, the government was determined to protect the lives and property of the minority as well. He said, the government believed that minorities were patriotic citizens and have equal rights like their Muslim brethren.
The chief minister made it clear that without the active support of the elite of various sects, the government could never create harmony and unity in society.
Durrani said, due to the wrong policies of past governments, the MMA government was faced with a plethora of problems.
Mr Durrani said, he was aware that the people had many grievances against the government and due to this reason he was concentrating on overhauling the outdated system and making government officials more responsible and efficient.
The CM said he had issued clear directives to the departments and top administrative officers to be courteous towards visitors. Leader of the delegation Alama Muhammad Ramazan Tauqir, while talking on the occasion, appreciated the efforts of the provincial government in creating harmony and unity between various religious sects.—APP
ADVICE TO STUDENTS: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has called upon the students’ community to work hard and prepare themselves for the challenging responsibilities of the future, Our Bureau adds.
He said the MMA government was doing its utmost to extend educational facilities to all the remote and backward areas of the province.
Talking to a students delegation of FR Bannu here on Saturday, he said that education was on top of his government’s agenda. This was why the government had decided to provide education up to Matric free of charge in addition to making Urdu the official language, he added.
In the present era of science and technology, education was considered a symbol of civilized and developed nations, he said, adding, “we have to focus our full attention towards promotion of literacy.”
He said that the steps taken by the MMA government in this regard were aimed at enabling the students, especially those of the poor families, to demonstrate their capabilities in all professional fields and appear in the competitive examinations with full confidence.
In response to the delegation’s demand, the chief minister assured that the problems regarding smooth supply of electricity in southern districts will be solved on a permanent basis.
