Sri Lanka beat Windies in thriller

CAPE TOWN, Feb 28: Sri Lanka edged out West Indies by six runs in a thrilling World Cup Group ‘B’ day-night match on Friday.

West Indies, chasing 229 for victory, finished on 222-9 with Ramnaresh Sarwan unbeaten on 47. He had returned to complete his innings after being struck on the helmet and forced to leave the field.

Shivnarine Chanderpaul top-scored with 65. Chris Gayle (55), Ridley Jacobs (0) and Ricardo Powell (one) were earlier dismissed in quick succession to put Sri Lanka in charge.

Sri Lanka made 228-6 from their 50 overs, captain Sanath Jayasuriya top-scoring with 66.
