LAHORE, Feb 28: The PML-N and the Jamiat Ulema-i-Pakistan set up a protest camp at Faisal Square on Friday afternoon to voice their opposition to the imminent US attack on Iraq.

PML-N leaders Dr Asad Ashraf, Ajasam Sharif, Mehr Ishtiaq, Mujtaba Shuja, Majida Zaidi, Begum Zakia Shahnawaz and Haji Imdad Husain attended the camp. They carried banners and placards and also raised slogans against US President Bush and the Pakistan government.

Party’s provincial secretary-general MNA Khwaja Saad Rafiq said while addressing the camp that the government must oppose the likely US attack on Iraq and add its voice to that of Germany and France who, in his opinion, had averted the clash of civilizations by not extending support to US plans.

Mr Saad said his party would raise the issue in the National Assembly.

He underlined the need for unity among the people at this crucial juncture.

Police were present at the place in large numbers and no untoward incident took place.
