KARACHI, Feb 28: Sindh minister for local bodies, Kutchi Abadis and special development Mohammad Hussain on Thursday called for updating town-planning according to modern requirements and lamented that Karachi was inhabited without any master plan.

These views were expressed by him at a seminar on “Building laws in Pakistan and their impact”, organized by the Pakistan Council of Architects and Town-Planners, at a local hotel.

The minister said that kutchi abadis are increasing day-by-day as new-comers in this city are also absorbed and given shelter in these slums.

He said when public utilities, such as water, electricity and gas, are provided to these colonies, they turn into permanent settlements, causing addition in slums without any town-planning.—PPI
